Tuesday and Thursday are my favorite weekdays. Not having class until 1 P.M., I am privileged to sleep in. Today however was different. I awoke at 5:45 in order to go campus Easter Egg hunting with my girlfriend. (Feminist take note: she chose to enter into a relationship with me and I take no possession of her so don't take the use of the word "my" out of context.) After hearing that she wanted to until shortly before seven, I gladly went to bed. We meet outside of my dorm room and began scavenging for eggs. FREE CANDY, say no more and you have my undivided attention. Figuring that we were not the first to comb over the campus I strayed away from the large empty courtyard and took my hunt to all of the bushes by the dorms. My significant other (I have to ask her if she wants me to use her name..it will save future conflict if I wait) on the other hand, went immediately to the populated and well traveled part of campus. Concluding our hunt we head back to looks at our finds. On our way inside, she asks me "We are splitting this right?" I said, "sure", cause that is what couples do. Low and behold, we empty our bags and she had a fourth of the eggs I had collected. Looking at our candy piles, hers was definitely much smaller. Before heading to breakfast, she throws her candy on top of mine to mix it all together. I spent the next several minutes reflecting on what I was feeling. Telling her about how unsatisfied I was with the situation she informed me she worked harder because she covered more ground. She put in more effort with less results because she didn't think about how to acquire the most eggs. This is much like the service worker who works twice as hard but does not get paid as much as the college graduate. Whether or not you decide to attend college is one on the toughest choices that you make. Investing in your education carefully you can have a huge return on investment. Is that smart investment, attending a small liberal arts college for $45,000 a year? That's a question that I am afraid to answer.
As a scapegoat, I am going to get a cup of coffee and work on a research paper instead of this continued procrastination and candy consumption!
